Illustration 2023

Various illustrations done through 2023, most drawn with the help of Procreate.

Veleta rococó

In the summer of 2023, my obsession was all about weather vanes, I located a weather vane workshop in Normandy (that I want to visit) and also started my own little photo collection. Weather vanes are small pieces of 2D art that populate our visual landscape; however, their design (in my opinion) is a bit underdocumented. For this piece, I put together many common elements of this field of graphics, which also led to a little research about figureheads.

Whale / Exhausted dino

So, today you're feeling like a lively whale or like an exhausted dino?

Human eating tiger

A little illustration as a way to cope with destruction in the world. Made with a free program called Glyph drawing club (look for it!) using five different modules, with a dash of the Digital Glitch 4 filter from Filter Forge. Stay safe!

Mezzaluna

I don't know what or who is Mezzaluna, but their expression is giving me life.

Technormandy

It was a while since I wanted to do my own take on Normandy's flag (two leopards - yes, really - in top of each other). So this weekend I spent a good moment re-drawing lines (see sketch on the last slide) until I got a drawing that was 100% curveless and fit to the grid, I then scanned it and re-traced it on Glyphs with a coarse grid, then added some Filter Forge glitch 4 filters.

Elephant VS Dragon

Did you know that the natural enemies of elephants are... dragons? That's it, according to medieval bestiaries (see "Les Bestiaires Médievaux", Michel Pastoreau). So here you see an elephant (vertue) fighting against sin, or maybe an elephant struggling with its own sexuality.

Elephant VS Dragon monogram

A monogram formed by an elephant and a dragon, each one in the shape of the first letter of their name.

Paris 2054 - Non Fluctuat Nec Mergitur

A pessimistic vision of what could happen if water stops flowing down the Seine. (Insert witty quote here).
